Big undertaking Big benefits
CHICAGO The White House on Friday announced that the United Center will serve was a vaccination center.
The United Center will have capacity to administer 6,000 shots per day and is expected to be up and running within the next two weeks. The White House said they are deploying federal teams to work with state and local jurisdictions.
The federal government is trying to ramp up its distribution to states. Gov. JB Pritzker said this week he expects to begin getting about 100,000 doses a day by the middle of March.

(47,640 posts)The center at the Oakland Coliseum is an amazing machine for good. I'd like the a-holes who claim government can't do anything right to come down and observe them doing 6,000 shots per day with lines that move swiftly and smiles everywhere.

(18,402 posts)I dont need it (were getting our vaccines through Northwestern Memorial), but Ive thought this was the ideal from the beginning: its indoor, and has the best, easiest access by bus or train, plus ample parking for those with cars. Really accessible.
Plus, when its open, its going to be limited at first to any resident in the state over 65I.e, it will be seniors only. 6,000 per day (a 40% increase). We still have 300,000 seniors in Cook County still to be vaccinated.
Superstar press conference going on right now: Governor Pritzger, Senators Durbin and Duckworth, Cook County President Preckwinkel (I love hearing from Toni), Mayor Lightfoot.
I am so happy!

(3,712 posts)Its been a mess here in Chicago. Everyone I speak to that has received a vaccine is outside of Cook county. I dont personally know anyone in Cook county that has been able to get an appointment. Cook county seems to be getting the shaft. I hope it improves soon. (Im not in an eligible group. So, I have to wait regardless. But, I am concerned for those that are eligible.)
