Goshen man pleads guilty in Capitol Riots case

GOSHEN — A Goshen man has pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain in the Capitol Riots investigation.

Jeffrey L. Munger, 55, Goshen, earlier this month pleaded guilty to Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building in violation of Title 40, U.S. Code, Section 5104©(2)(G).

As part of that plea, Munger could receive a sentence of six months in prison, a term of probation of not more than five years, and a fine of not more than $5,000. He will also pay restitution to the Architect of the Capitol in the amount of $500, to help pay for the $1.5 million in damage caused to the Capitol during the Jan. 6 riots, according to the plea bargain.

In return, other charges filed against Munger will be dropped, including charges of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, and disorderly conduct in a capitol building.

His Washington, D.C.-based attorney, Heather Shaner, stated in an email to The Goshen News, “He is a wonderful man who made a mistake he deeply regrets.”

I have little sympathy for these criminals. $500 is a pittance. I can't believe they did less than $1.5 million in physical damage. And even if they fine all 700 of them so far, which they won't, $500 each is a mere $350,000.00. Seems a bit short.

If I were that guy, would the sentence be the same? These people need to be "years" in prison, not months. $500 for restitution should be $5,000 or more. Make it hurt. Babying these people will only convince them they can do it again.

They aren’t for Democracy. Should have spent a year in jail.

I bet if trump had come through with pardons or lawyer fees he’d still be the same insurrectionist.

It was NOT a fucking riot and I get incensed when the media refers to it as that.
