Also points out the "toxic" environment of Iowa senate Republicans.
Jesus, this state is so different than the one I grew up in.
Republican senators who testified were oblivious. Andersons previous supervisors had collective amnesia about past complaints about the work environment and harassment. Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix, who was the Senate minority leader at the time Anderson was fired, continued to deny that she was fired for any reason other than her work performance.
I am disappointed in the verdict announced this afternoon. Kirsten Anderson was terminated only for her poor work product and absolutely no other reason, Dix wrote. The environment prior to my leadership was lacking in professionalism and appropriate behavior. Any issues that arose during the trial, which had not previously been reported to a supervisor, will be investigated and addressed immediately.
Its not entirely clear what Senate Republicans did to investigate the complaints reported before the trial. The Registers Grant Rodgers reported that one staff analyst and attorney who testified, Tom Ashworth, said no senator or supervisor asked him a single question about inappropriate behavior he witnessed.

(63,327 posts)2. Yep - for some reason I would sure like to see them actually have to pay for their
fuck ups out of their own pockets. With the 24 senators I believe they had at that time that would come to about $10,000 per senator or a good portion of their legislative pay.
I wasn't a harasser nor were my family and friends nor you- sure feels like the perps ought to pay.
You personal responsibility and that sort of stuff.
