Topeka City Council to discuss banning discrimination against gay, transgender people
Who would enforce it and how much would that cost the city?
The Topeka City Council asked those questions last year as it considered a proposal to ban discrimination against gay and transgender people, then sent that measure back to the Topeka Human Relations Commission, which had proposed it.
The council recently got answers to those questions in a document thats part of the agenda packet for Tuesdays council meeting, where the council plans to discuss that topic but not take any action.
Implementation of the proposed ban on discrimination against gay and transgender people would have no budgetary impact upon the city, that document says.
Thats because the Kansas Human Relations Commission and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission took responsibility for investigating discrimination complaints regarding gender identity and sexual orientation after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled last June in the case of Bostock v. Clayton County, Ga., the document says.
