New Orleans man pleads guilty to fraud after caught with hundreds of stolen cards

A New Orleans man caught at Louis Armstrong International Airport with more than 700 credit and gift cards, including at least 550 confirmed as stolen, pleaded guilty Thursday (July 14) to one count of fraud, said U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite's office.

Cliff Durio, 25, was arrested Aug. 2, 2013 after TSA screeners discovered the fraudulent cards in a bag Durio checked for a flight from Kenner to Houston, according to court documents.

A TSA screening machine alerted screeners to a suspicious object in Durio's luggage.

When screeners inspected Durio's bag, they found 738 credit and gift cards. At least 550 of the cards were encoded and embossed with stolen account numbers, many of which had reported fraud.
