Four from Westminster transportation company plead not guilty to false billing Medicaid $19 million
WORCESTER - The owner of a Westminster transportation company and three company managers pleaded not guilty Monday to charges related to falsely billing for $19 million worth of transportation services that were never provided.
Rite Way LLC of Westminster, company owner Michael Davini of Rindge, N.H. and Rite Way managers Gary Carbonello of Leominster, Dwayne Pelkey of Winchendon and Lynn Maguire of Abington were indicted last month on false Medicaid claims and larceny.
The charges, made by prosecutors assigned to Attorney General Maura Healey's Medicaid Fraud Division, allege Mr. Davini and his employees engaged in a scheme to falsely bill MassHealth $19 million.
The prosecution alleges that the fraudulent billings by the company, which provided non-emergency wheelchair van transportation, were for people who were hospitalized; no longer using the company's services; or dead.
