Catherine Martin said she plans to invest the money as well as save for retirement and her grandkids' college funds.
WESTLAND, Mich. A Wayne County woman surprised her family on Christmas with the news that she'd won a $1 million Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery.
Catherine Martin, 63, bought her winning ticket at MD Westland LLC, located at 32919 Cherry Hill Road in Westland.
She matched the five white balls in the Sept. 4 drawing last fall to win the big prize: 07-10-21-33-59.
"I play Powerball every week and use a special set of numbers, said Martin. The day after the drawing, I got a call from my husband while I was at work telling me that he checked my Powerball ticket, and Id won $1 million! I was stunned and had a hard time believing him. Honestly, I still dont believe it!"
Martin said they kept their win a secret until they got to surprise their family with it on Christmas.
She recently claimed her prize and said she plans to invest the money as well as save for retirement and her grandkids' college funds.
