Saginaw council member, former candidate charged with election law forgery
A Saginaw City Council member and a former city council candidate are facing felony charges alleging fraud involving fraudulent signatures to get on the November 2024 general election ballot.
On July 23, 2024, Saginaw City Councilwoman Monique Lamar-Silvia, 64, fraudulently signed voters' names to a nominating petition filed with the Saginaw City Clerk's Office in an attempt to get Eric Eggleston, 53, of Saginaw, on the ballot, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said.
Eggleston then allegedly signed the petition form, falsely certifying that he was the circulator, and submitted both forms to the clerks office shortly before the filing deadline that same day, according to Nessel's office.
Nessel said a clerk noticed the discrepancies and reported them. Eggleston's name was not put on the ballot.
