Clarion-LedgerJune 10, 2015
Mississippi was one of two states whose gross domestic product decreased last year.
Alaska was the other.
The state's GDP, which measures economic output, shrank 1.2% in 2014, marking the second consecutive year of decline. Overall, U.S. GDP grew by 2.2% in 2014.
The revelation was included in data the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis released Wednesday. The decline put Mississippi 49th in the U.S. The state's GDP decreased 1.1% in 2013. The state also had the lowest GDP per capita ($31,551) in the country.

(9,033 posts)Alaska with the oil slump, Mississippi with Jindal at the helm. I wonder where other conservative utopias are on that list? Kansas, Wisconsin...we actually have candidates this year who are willing to point out the object lesson and this would be an excellent time to do it.

(5,902 posts)But you're absolutely right: those two are peas in a pod.
Puppets of the Deep South's medieval good ole boy mafia and unreconstructed segregationists and secessionists (I lived in Mi'ssippi for several years and frequent dealings with Louisianans as well, and can assure you the KKK still very much calls the shots in both those states).
As you can imagine, thousands of qualified people leave the Deep South every year for that very reason: one is simply not welcome there if the local gentry can't relate to you or use you. It's a lot like many Third World countries in that regard (to say nothing of the weather - sheesh!).
