Former Jackson attorney claims discrimination in lawsuit

The day before a former Jackson employee filed a sexual harassment suit against Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber, another employee claimed the city discriminated against her.

Former Deputy City Attorney Lara Gill alleges in her federal suit against the city filed Wednesday that officials transferred and then terminated her after she began questioning City Attorney Monica Joiner's use of city resources and her "practices, policies and procedures."

Gill, who is white, also alleges that the city discriminated against her based on her race.

"Gill also questioned her transfer because African-American deputy city attorneys with less litigation experience than Gill but municipal court experience were not transferred," the complaint states.
