Ex-Brix worker accused of stealing $110,000 in gift card scheme; unclear if case is related to shuttering of stores

A former Brix employee who worked at the Village Pointe location of the now-closed wine bar and store is accused of stealing more than $110,000 as part of a gift card scheme.

Brenton McLaurine on Dec. 29 pleaded not guilty to two counts of felony theft by deception. He was ordered to stand trial in Douglas County District Court.

It is unclear if McLaurine’s case is related to the recent closings of both Brix locations, the second being in Midtown Crossing. Brix founder and CEO Dan Matuszek said Friday he had no comment on the case.

It’s also unclear what happens to customers’ gift and pour cards they purchased from Brix.
