False testimony claims sharpen split over bill to keep retired state workers' names secret
Tempers flared on Monday at the Nevada Legislature, where lawmakers again heard a deeply divisive bill that would hide the names of thousands of retired public employees.
A nearly two-month gap between major committee hearings only seemed to raise tensions over Senate Bill 224, state Sen. Julia Ratti’s effort to shield the identity of retirees enrolled in the state-run Public Employees’ Retirement System.
Current state law requires PERS to disclose the type and amount of pension paid to retirees, as well as their name, last employer, years of service and years of retirement.
SB 224 would allow the public to access almost all of that information — except the names.
