https://www.yahoo.com/news/mario-cuomo-bridge-tappan-zee-100653937.htmlA bill to restore the original name supported by a petition with more than 260,000 signatures has sat for two years. But it was recently revived and stands a better shot this session, with a Democratic senator taking up the cause in the Democratic-majority Legislature and Gov. Kathy Hochul wielding the pen to sign or veto it instead of her predecessor, Andrew Cuomo.
Personally, I adored Mario Cuomo.
But "Tappan Zee" refers to an important part of NY history. I was never in favor of changing the name.

(7,133 posts)I lived in Rockland County for decades, and now Orange County...both on the west side of the Hudson.
I crossed the Tappan Zee bridge at least a thousand times, and was glad to see it was being replaced by a much bigger bridge that could handle the traffic flow that is now far higher than the bridge, which was built in the 50's, was designed to handle.
Tappan Zee is an important part of NY history; it's a non-political name that honors an historical location.
Rename the Bridge to Tappan Zee!

(53,221 posts)realized it was not the Frog's Neck Bridge.
And that is in spit of the fact that we had to cross it to get from home to the family business. And I was an early reader. But not that tuned in to my surroundings, I guess.

(27,620 posts)I had gotten an early start on partying one holiday weekend. A road trip was organized and a designated driver appointed. I became unwell out the window of a moving car on the Throgs Neck Bridge. It was just before getting to the Queens side, and it was about 50 years ago, so Im reasonably sure the chunder has been cast asunder.

(13,579 posts)Eve, 1981. Guy and his wife.
Driving back, we're on the bridge by "Fraternity Rock' and the guy says to pull over, I'm gonna throw up. So I end up holding the guy up while he's barfing. He's plastered and in danger of falling over the guard rail.
I wipe him off and get him back in the car, which is now stinking of booze and chum.
I get them home and was presented with a $500. tip. And this was when $500 was worth $500.

(27,620 posts)With my luck, my fare would projectile vomit inside and then stiff me for a tip.

Anyways, I'm humping heavy boxes into the car. The cab and trunk are filled to the brim.
We get to the airport, $100. tip.
Again, this was when $100 was worth $100 (Pre-Reagan).

(3,801 posts)I hate all our bridges and tunnels getting renamed in the NYC area, those politicians should be dead for 50 or more years before we even consider it.
