Early voting for North Carolina's 2026 primary elections begins this week; See the races and candidates
HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) This week, North Carolinians will begin casting their ballots for the primary elections ahead of the 2026 midterms in November.
On Thursday, early in-person voting will begin across the state for the midterm primaries. Residents will vote according to the party on their voter registration for the candidates who will run in the November midterm election.
This midterm includes high-profile races like the United States Senate seat currently occupied by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina). Tillis declined to run again in 2026, and multiple candidates have thrown their hats in the ring, from former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper for the Democrats to former North Carolina GOP Chairman Michael Whatley and former North Carolina State Superintendent-hopeful Michele Morrow among the Republicans.
If you need to update your voter registration and missed the Feb. 6 deadline, you can do so during in-person early voting.
