(5,211 posts)1. Incumbency, and the name recognition that goes with it;
2. Money - his own & family's as well as GOP deep pockets;
3. Younger than Strickland, who is in his early 70's.

(34,342 posts)The Strickland name is well known in Ohio
The ODP is under new leadership with Pepper and has a great plan for raising funs with the 16,18 plan.
After hearing Ted, I'd say he is a little older than Portman and much wiser too. He was able to rip apart Portman's record. Bring on the debates.

(2,010 posts)There is no doubt that Husted, as SOS, has set up a lot of problems counting Democratic voters. However, if we have a great turnout, the GOP knows they cannot withstand real scrutiny if there is a great turnout. That is why they have worked so hard to depress voter turnout every chance they get.
Portman is a disgusting creature of the corporations. No one in Ohio except for the Lindners, Wexners, and the Wolfs have gotten anything from Portman being a Senator from Ohio. Most people realize that he is completely useless. Most people just need to go vote!
Here is the problem with Democrats....get off your lazy asses and GO VOTE. So tired of the poor turnouts in voting by the Democrats yet they sit and whine...GO VOTE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

(2,157 posts)After Senator Rob Portman's son came out as being Gay, Senator Portman did what any good parent would do, he stood behind his son not just in words but in action. In October of 2014 Sent Portman bucked his party's traditional stance on gay marriage by announcing that he has reevaluated his position & no longer believes that marriage should be defined as between 1 woman & 1 man.
After doing so a national traditional values group has vowed to defeat Senator Portman in his US Senate reelection bid, or if he should decide to, his Campaign for the Presidency.
According to the head of the national organization for marriage, Brian Brown, is quoted in saying that is Sen Portman chooses to run for reelection we will make sure that the GOP faithful understand that they would be supporting a man who believes in amending the constitution to redefine marriage so that gays can get married, which is contrary to the platform of the Republican Party.
He goes on to say "the Republican faithful deserve a Candidate who is committed to preserving the sanctity of marriage, the same voters & those who recently contributed to electing pro-marriage Republicans such as Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, Pat Roberts & Thom Tillis are not going to support Rob Portman this time around, politically or financially".
On A Side Note: I Personally applaud Senator Portman for coming to his son's defense and turning rhetoric into reality by having the balls to come out against the Republican Party and no longer being a same sex marriage is a sin Republican, which cost him a lot in doing so, I wish more Republicans have his integrity & convictions...
