Near East Side Columbus nursing home ordered close, residents moved

The state is helping a Near East Side nursing home move its residents while permanent closure looms for the long-troubled facility.

Recent inspection reports for Bryden Place describe neglected residents, inadequate medical care and unsanitary living conditions, including problems with rodents and food preparation.

Over six months, the facility failed to comply with 80 different health and safety requirements, according to the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Federal officials terminated the nursing home’s Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements on Tuesday for “repeated evidence of substandard quality of care.” Residents using those payments must be moved by Aug. 31.
