Is anyone else bothered that toll roads are being foisted off on us?
Its right up there with sales taxes in my list of things I think Oregon should have nothing to do with.

Not only does someone want to toll Oregon.. its a 5 member commission made up of three people from outside the Willamette valley thats trying to bring toll roads to Portland.
How about maybe we try something that might actually help with congestion instead. Make the MAX free. Make transit a buck a ride. Find ways to create affordable housing options near where people work.
Or.. We could effectively privatize bits of our roads, add barriers to impede traffic, and pretend thats going to help anything.

(776 posts)2. Toll roads in Portland, Oregon coming in about "ten years"
From OregonLive.com:
Oregon will ask federal highway officials for permission to toll congested sections of Interstate 5 and 205, but state transportation leaders dont plan to stop there.
The states top transportation decisionmakers also want to develop a plan to study tolling Oregon 217, I-405, I-84, U.S. 26 and other highways in the metro area. They want that plan by the end of January.
Sean OHollaren, a state transportation commissioner and Nike executive, said the state had a duty to look beyond just tolling I-5 and I-205 because congestion is an issue everywhere. We are not being honest if we only look at these corridors, he said.

of driving on a congested road.
