GOP governor candidate talks about abortion, guns and other conservative priorities

Republican candidate for governor Catherine Templeton said Monday that she wants to allow the state's residents to carry guns without concealed-weapons permits and reduce the number of abortions in South Carolina.

In what her campaign billed as her first policy speech, Templeton outlined her conservative priorities at the monthly First Monday of Greenville political forum at the Poinsett Club.

Her eyes briefly welled with tears while recalling a doctor's appointment when she was pregnant with her twins. The mother of three said her doctor had suggested that one of the twins might need to be aborted to save the other's life.

“My husband and I did not even walk out of the room and talk" before rejecting the suggestion, Templeton said. "Those were our children to protect as long as God would allow.”
