Related: About this forumPretty bad fire in Georgetown last night.
Apparently burned out eight buildings in the old historic district.
We visited on a road trip last Spring, and enjoyed touring through the area. It's a very picturesque old town; very sad to see the loss of those old buildings.

(19,459 posts)Spent the night at Mansfield Plantation, and had an excellent dinner at The River Room in Georgetown.
We thoroughly enjoyed our road trip through that part of the country.

(2,435 posts)This has been a heart breaking loss for the Georgetown folks. Among the stores lost was HarborWalk Books. It was a Christmas shopping must for me and has been for the past 20 years. It is a beautiful downtown on Front Street and now it has this wound. I only hope there are the resources and will to rebuild. Like a lot of downtowns - it has been a tough go in recent years...

(19,459 posts)We were only there for a couple of days but we really enjoyed our time in the area. Front street is beautiful, and I do hope folks will be able to recover quickly from the loss although there is no replacing the history that was destroyed.
We enjoyed a lovely evening stroll along Front street, and ended with a great dinner at The River Room. It was our first time actually vacationing in the South; we had driven through some of the southern states moving oldest daughter to and from college in Philly (we are West Coasters) but they were always marathon drives without much time to explore.
We apparently lucked out, bug-wise, as there weren't many mosquitoes out. The lady who runs the Mansfield Plantation B&B told us that it can get pretty bad certain times of the year.
Being an avid reader I can totally relate to losing that bookstore; here's hoping the owners will be able to rebuild soon.
