South Carolina police officer charged in fatal shooting of man accused of running stop sign

A small-town police officer of nearly 30 years in South Carolina was charged Wednesday for shooting and killing an unarmed man who led her on a high-speed chase and then tried to run from his wrecked car, investigators said.

Hemingway police officer Cassandra Dollard, 52, faces one count of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting early Sunday after she chased the driver 8 miles outside the limits of the town of 530 people.

Dollard tried to pull over Robert Junior Langley, 46, for running a stop sign and it turned into a chase where Langley was driving more than 100 mph, according to an arrest warrant from the State Law Enforcement Division.

Langley crashed his car in a ditch in rural Georgetown County and was trying to get out the passenger door when he was shot in the chest, agents said.

Reckless driving, trigger-happy cops. Doesn’t anybody just want to live their life anymore?

This is a sad, strange story. The run stop sign probably the biggest crime that day in the unnamed metropolis of 530. If she had not shot him, she could have gotten him for the stop sign, speeding and resisting arrest.
