(11,619 posts)celebrate Confederate Memorial Day on May 10. Southerners claim they're celebrating the day Confederate Gen. Thomas Stonewall Jackson died, after being wounded by his own troops, and the day Union soldiers captured fleeing Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Not much to celebrate, if you ask me. However, John Wilkes Booth was born on that date, so maybe that's what the festivities are all about.
