(36,399 posts)I'd never heard of him, but followed the link and there was that big Piggie Park sign with the smiling cartoon pig that I remember so well from my childhood. We used to eat at them when on road trips or when my grandparents came to visit us. Otherwise we had favorite local barbecue joints (I'm from north Georgia). Nonetheless, I've eaten many a pulled pork sandwich at Bessinger's restaurants. I had no clue.
edit: I'm editing this. It's not showing up as edited afterward. WTF?

Eating pulled pork with good intentions doesn't count against you.

(3,025 posts)which was back in the seventies, we used to eat at the Bessinger's on Highway 17 all the time. Was this place Maurice's? Or did it belong to another member of the Bessinger clan. I know that, many years later, we went by his place off Hwy 26 in Columbia, and were shocked to pieces at all the Confederate flags and what looked like KKK stuff on display there. Couldn't wait to get out of this place and honest, we were just there for the Barbeque.
