State House Democrats, Republicans to turn over finance records to investigators

COLUMBIA — Amid an ongoing corruption investigation at the South Carolina Statehouse, Democratic House leaders confirmed Friday that they will voluntarily turn over caucus finance records to a special prosecutor.

The move is part of an effort for “full transparency,” Democrats say and comes after state investigators requested similar documents from Republicans. House GOP leaders said they are complying with the request for caucus financial records dating back to 1995.

The investigation led by 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe, an Orangeburg Democrat, has focused on House Republicans so far.

Despite not having a request from Pascoe, House Democratic caucus finance records from 2013 will be turned over to the prosecutor, said House Minority Leader Todd Rutherford, D-Columbia.
