Suspended Vt. lawmaker faces 2nd trial on sex charges

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Suspended Vermont state Sen. Norman McAllister faces a second trial on sex charges less than two months after charges were dropped in his first trial.

The six counts against the Franklin County Republican were split, with his trial in June on two of them ending in dismissal of the charges after the complaining witness' story failed to hold up under cross examination.

At a status conference in the criminal court in St. Albans on Monday, the trial on four other counts - three of prohibited acts and one of sexual assault - was set for Aug. 10, 11 and 12.

McAllister, who maintains he is innocent, was arrested outside the Statehouse in Montpelier 14 months ago and was suspended by the Senate pending the outcome of his case in January.
