Bellevue's Claudia Balducci launches run for King County executive
King County Councilmember and Sound Transit Board Member Claudia Balducci announced Tuesday that she will seek the open King County executive job in 2025 following Dow Constantine's decision not to seek reelection.
Balducci, the former mayor of Bellevue, would be the first woman in history to serve as executive of the county. With a population of 2.3 million, it's the 12th largest in the United States.
She touts her work on transportation, housing and public safety.
"We deserve to feel and be safe in our communities, which is why I have delivered public safety solutions from support for law enforcement to crime prevention, and behavioral health responses,” she said in a news release. She added that as executive she will "lead efforts to protect reproductive freedom, immigrant rights, and environmental protection from any attempted rollbacks by the federal government."
