Shelter in place lifted after Mukilteo ammonia leak

MUKILTEO — Authorities have lifted a shelter in place recommendation after an ammonia leak at a Mukilteo seafood plant Friday morning.

At 8:52 a.m., firefighters responded to an active leak in the refrigeration system of Pacific Seafood, located at 4520 107th St. SW, just off Mukilteo Speedway, according to the Mukilteo Fire Department. Just after 10 a.m., the department said “occupants within 600 ft should shelter in place until further notice.”

Hazardous materials technicians were able to isolate the main leak, Mukilteo fire officials said. During this process, one firefighter was exposed to ammonia. Paramedics cleared the firefighter at the scene.

At 11:41 a.m., officials lifted the shelter in place directive. Crews reportedly remained on scene to monitor until after 3 p.m. The facility was eventually turned back over to the business owner.
