Be afraid. Be very afraid.
"SNIP.......
Thats the message Le Journal de Montréal, Quebecs popular tabloid, is trying to convey. Two weeks ago, it refuelled ongoing discussion over immigration in Quebec by splashing on its Saturday cover the image of a fleur-de-lis trapped.
LE QUÉBÉC PRIS AU PIÈGE screamed the headline, Quebec trapped, in a Canada that wants 100 million habitants. There was an eight-page spread about Ottawas grand plan, declaring French forced to decline, and (Quebecs) political influence condemned.
The papers top columnists weighed in, with headlines such as: Justin Trudeau is more cunning than we believed, They want to assimilate us, All this without any debate, and Two catastrophic scenarios.
The sensationalist coverage coming seemingly out of nowhere got Quebecers talking, from university presidents to the folks at Tim Hortons.

(123,625 posts)Poilievre's immigration stance.
His party does not have enough support to win a federal election, and even if they came close, they would not be able to find other parties willing to form government with them.
Poilievre himself is a dog whistle politician who has never worked a real job in his life. He was brought up under Harper, who had real difficulty finding French speaking Quebeckers to run for his party. Since the departure of Harper he's been blowing every Trump and Dog whistle he can find.
He does one thing in Quebec, then does the opposite in Alberta. The guy is so transparently hypocritical that most Canadian view him as nothing more than a bad joke.
He and his party are going nowhere, despite all the corporate right wing money behind them.
