Former prime minister Stephen Harper says he wants closer ties between right-leaning political parties — including the Conservative Party of Canada — and the Hungarian government, which has been accused of democratic backsliding.

Harper chairs the International Democrat Union, a global alliance of right-leaning political parties that includes Canada's Conservatives as well as the Fidesz Party led by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The two met Thursday in Budapest. Harper said on Twitter they discussed "the importance of centre-right parties strengthening their collaboration."

Human Rights Watch says Orban's government has delivered sustained "attacks on rule of law and public institutions," such as surveillance of journalists and actions undermining judicial independence.

center-right, they are far right and Harper's party is no longer center right either. PP has taken it far right as well, imo.

but have been moving further right ever since, imo. Snakes indeed.

6. I hate to see Canada

fall prey to the evils of the U.S. I hate seeing any other country devolve into what we've become here. I hope they have better laws and better enforcers of the law to fight back.

Bannon's big project was to go all over the world and insinuate (and teach) his form of violent governmental chaos. Even tho Italy stood firm and refused to give him his school to teach from, it looks like he and others like him are doing quite well without four walls. How do you fight an asymmetric war like this? How do you even declare a war like this? And yet, no doubt we *are* in a war for our very country and lives.

7. Yes. Fortunately some old time Conservatives are standing up against

the politics of division. But yeah. No country is immune.
