Back in the Before Times (that is, before COVID-19 hit), on the occasions when I took the 16X Metrobus into DC to go to work (as opposed to the Metrorail Yellow Line), I would cut across the grounds of the Embassy of Canada between the stop where I had alighted and my workplace. The building was festooned with huge Canadian flags.

it is simple, both in colour and symbol, yet it has dignity, imo.

2. Many, many Canadians fly their flag

I travel around Canada quite a bit and am impressed by how many folks fly the flag. They apparently don’t have the silly American rule about not flying the flag at night or in the rain. They put up a flag and it stays up.. I like it.
