Matt Frei sums up life under Boris Johnson and Brexit. It's not pretty. 🫤
Only a couple of minutes audio and worth listening too, a really great, if not also deeply depressing summarionJust when you think they cannot get any worse they just do. Again and again. Rinse and repeat. Disdain for the people they are supposed to serve with a massive dollop of abject incompetency to boot. And here we are - and this is before the mendacious, vacuous nasty piece of 💩 Liz Truss gets her grubby far right libertarian claws on number ten. Things are only going to get worse from here on in. Most people are not that politically engaged and have not yet realised just how bad it is going to get. JAMs will take to the streets when they realise they cannot heat and eat for their kids this winter. Shit will go down. Winter of discontent indeed.

(14,810 posts)4. My Twitterfeed has been non stop sewage for a few days now
The footage of sewage being pumped into the English Channel at Bexhill On Sea is being shared endlessly, as well as tweets naming the Tory MP's who voted to allow this to happen.

I wrote this (and far too much more) in response to another DUer who was defending Labour's wishy-washy response to Brexit in "left-wing" terms back in June 2017:
Do you have any idea the economic mess the UK was in before it joined the EC?
There were pressing reasons why the UK joined. You're sounding exactly like those blinkered Leavers who drone on about "We used to be fine in the old days, warm beer, dollies in mini skirts, yadayadayada." It was known as "The Sick Man of Europe" and - not coincidentally, "The Dirty Old man of Europe", as its attitudes to ecology were terrible. Something then changed ...

Now, how much Brexit has to do directly with the shitstream in our rivers and on our coasts is up for debate, as these crappy problems have been brewing for a long time, even while we were in the EU, but it now looks like we're now going to be at the mercy of - God help us - Liz Truss and the hoary cabal she gathers around her to address the problems without a supra-governmental body to apply added pressure.
