I never imagined just how good a retina screen was. That alone is worth it.
But, wow. The speed! I use file maker pro and the iPad version, Go. The doubling of speed was necessary and very welcome. Superb machine.
I still haven't hooked up witha 4G carrier, but so far, this is a worthwhile investment.

(68,476 posts)But I am going to get a WiFi-only. I have an original that is WiFi-only, and a 2 that is 3G. I find I have very little need for the 3G. Every now and again I use it, but honestly, not very often at all. For the rare times I feel the need, my iPhone will get me by. I never have a need to transfer files in the field. I create no documents in the field (just collect data on occasion). I just do email and an occasional google search. The phone is fine for that.
I find that WiFi is so widely available that the 3G is almost unnecessary.
Do you have a specific need for the 4G?

(51,122 posts)Ohmygod, the screen. Battery lasts a Long Time. It gets warm with intense processor use, but nowhere near hot.
I ended up with a 4G model, just in case I need it in a pinch. I did not activate the Verizon. Being able to get a plan, month to month with no commitment convinced me.
Download the free app 'Flipboard.' For me, this is the killer app on iPad.

the great screen came in handy today, while I was on trial. I even got to show some exhibits to the court that neither side brought to court. As I said, handy.
Have you checked out Audubon on the iPad? Animals, trees, mushrooms, birds (with examples of bird calls) and more. FAN FUCKING TASTIC.
