How do I find out how much free MB I have on my hard disc?

I have looked various places, went to Finder, looked under the Apple menu, went to Apple support page. Can't figure it out. I need to know in order to order some software I want which requires a minimum amount.

This info *used* to be displayed in the Finder window when you double-clicked on a disk. For some reason, with OSX, Apple decided it was only necessary to show the amount of data on the disk, not the free space.

From the top menu bar, click Go, then when the drop down window appears, go to Utilities and then click on Activity Monitor.

When the window opens up, it will give you these options: CPU, System Memory, Disk Activity, Disk Usage and Network.

Pick Disk Usage and it will show you what you have as a pie graph with available and free space in gig and also bytes. I keep Activity Monitor in the Dock so that I can skip the other steps.

Good luck.

Placed it in my dock and check it every so often. It's especially good for checking memory usage when you have a bunch of stuff open.

Click "About this Mac"

Click "More Info"

Click on the "Storage" button at the top left of the window/dialogue box.

There's a graph of your hard drive.

Or just hit Command /

That way it will be at the bottom of your Finder windows, always.
