Looking for a motherboard for an Intel i5 processor

that does not have UEFI. I'm wanting to upgrade to an i5 processor and use ubuntu. I've tried three different 'i processors' machines and none of them will let me install ubuntu and from what I gather its because of this thing called UEFI bios. Surely there is a motherboard that doesn't have this crap that has the 1150 socket

thanks

You should be able to install a recent Ubuntu. Which version did you try to install? PoliticAverse Mar 2014 #1

I was trying to install 10.04 and it's not supported according to what I read, I think at the link you gave me, so I'm going to print the information in that link and see if I can put 13.10 on. Mate 1.8 was just released yesterday and I'll try it too.

if the "Trusted Boot" or "Secure Boot" (may be called slightly different things with diff mfrs), or "Secure Boot Control", (is under the security menu)
is enabled, you may have a problem.

You may have already looked at this, but you could try disabling the option above, and re-installing.

With what you've told me and the link PoliticAverse gave me I think I can do it now. Thanks for the help.

I'm off to happy trails now

Actually it'll be later this afternoon before I try but I'm convinced it can be done, just not with my beloved ubuntu 10.04. Time for me to come around and upgrade anyway.

I put the SSD back in my old computer and loaded 14.04 on it.
I worked for two days and mostly nights trying to get the new computer to load ubuntu or mint. I could get the program to install but never could get the bios to let me boot to it. I must have tried at least a couple dozen or more times, installing this then that. 12.04, 12.10 and three different versions of mint 14, 15 and 16. I gave up said the hell with it. Since ubuntu 8.04 I've put one of the linux versions on more computers than I can count and not once did I have a problem. Not just Ubuntu and its variants either but other distros too. Haven't been able to do UEFI though. I'm still looking to retire my old dell and upgrade to an i5 based system. I don't think the processor is the problem I think its the chipset. I've tried on 85 and 87 without any luck, all being intel motherboards. Next time I'll make sure I get a different one.

I'd like to use the 4th gen i5 processor if possible. If you or anyone else can point me in a direction to do that I'd greatly appreciate it.
