NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux.

(37,671 posts)Just go to the tools menu in Firefox and choose "Add-Ons" (other browsers will have similar options) and click on "Plug-Ins". If you see VLC player, just choose "always activate" from the drop menu and choose "never activate" from the drop menu for Adobe Flash Player.
VLC came with my Linux installation, and was set as the default appl'n for a lot of filetypes. I just checked Firefox running under WinXP, and the VLC option isn't there ! Still stuck with Flash Player for Windows -- at least XP.
VLC Multimedia Player appears to be the top download in video for Linux, FWIW.
ETA: Just saw your sig line and man is that true ! I was just thinking about this yesterday -- why are there so few competent thinkers in the Repug-dominated Congress ? Because they were'nt selected for competence, but self-selected for voraciousness.
