3. Best system for course materials?

I'm teaching a course this summer. The class will be sponsored by the local municipality, and I want to have some materials online so I can post videos, instructions, and stuff online. What would be the quickest way to do this?

I've heard that Drupal is pretty good, but in the past I've used wordpress. It's an 8 week course, so I don't need anything that fancy for the course itself. However, I plan on expanding the original site after I'm done with the course and making it into a big website and hope to make some money off of it.

4. WordPress will be fine for this.

Simpler of the 2 to install and run. WordPress has a huge community and a very large number of plugins available. You can technically do quite a bit with Drupal and it has a reputation has being more robust, but if you're just starting with CMSs WordPress is a better choice in my opinion.

6. For a dedicated education site that does course materials + I recomend checking out Moodle or ELMS

both are open source, but since elms is drupal based i would probably lean that way.

5. Drupal - after trying the ones you mentioned, as well as a few others I went with Drupal

And haven't looked back.

When a client needs a site that doesn't require ultimate flexibility, then I go with wordpress, but most often it is drupal.

There are people who are using Joomla and people who using Wordpress and each of them have their reasons why they are using that certain platform. It depends very much on what do you want to achieve with your website because for example Wordpress is much better if you want to make a website with a lot of content (text, images, videos) but in the same time I think Joomla is better for a small online games website. There are many things that you need to consider and compare between them but in the end everything depends on you and which one (Wordpress or Joomla) you understand better.

Professionals' favorite program is usually Joomla. Joomla allows them to build a site with more content and structure flexibility than WordPress offers, but still with fairly easy, intuitive usage.

It really is about personal preference. Some addons (modules/apps) are more readily available in Joomla than Wordpress and vice versa. It depends what kind of site you are going to build.

On the whole I found Joomla to have a steeper learning curve but was very robust at building a large content management site. Wordpress was easier to get your head around and I would have built high quality websites with.

Just two other things to mention both have their own distinctive way of doing something and it feels like you are hitting your head against a brick wall because you just want the site to perform in a particular way and can't find the exact module/addon that fits the bill. You do need to be adaptable.

The other thing is to ALWAYS ensure your security is uptodate, a couple of my sites have been hacked and destroyed because I didn't apply the latest security patches (sounds simple but when you are managing a number of sites it can happen).
