The community is home to a group led by Adir Aliatti, 69, known as Prem Milan, who promotes the teachings of the controversial Indian spiritual leader Osho, the "sex guru."
Milan is under investigation for psychological torture, faith healing, and fraud, as well as violations of the Child and Adolescent Statute. According to the police, he is also accused of misappropriating approximately R$ 20 million [ $3 Million].
Milan's defense denies the allegations made by the accusers and states that "since the first reports, it has made itself available to the authorities."
In May, Folha revealed complaints from 16 former members of the community. They described a routine of manipulation, humiliation, labor exploitation, and instances of physical aggression.
During the operation, the Civil Police seized documents, computers, cell phones, card machines, and photographs from the community.
