Grocery Outlet closing 36 stores, including several in SoCal
Monday, March 9, 2026 6:51PM PT
EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KABC) -- Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is closing 36 underperforming stores nationwide, including several locations in Southern California.
Jason Potter, President and CEO of the California-based retailer, said the closures are a cost-cutting correction for expanding too quickly.
He also cited changes in SNAP benefits that have impacted the brand's core customer base.
Stores in California, Idaho, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania will be impacted with closures.
The bargain retailer plans to close the underperforming stores and terminate most deals linked to those operations by the end of the current fiscal year.

I was not impressed. It was like an under stocked Walmart crossed with an ALDI knockoff. I checked prices against Wally World and they were almost identical.

They used to be really good bargain places but they are now pretty much the same prices as all others. Winco has better prices overall.
