ExxonMobil employees appear to move toward union vote

After months of organizing, an official petition to decertify the local United Steelworkers Union at ExxonMobil Beaumont has been filed with the National Labor Relations Board.

The petition, officially recorded on Tuesday by the federal agency, could trigger a formal vote to end representation by the union if the NLRB finds that the petition has verified signatures from at least 30% of members and non-members represented by the USW local at the complex.

Active efforts to decertify the union have been ongoing since at least the beginning of the year, around the same time that negotiations for a new contract began, but the push to collect signatures doubled down after the lockout of more than 620 workers began in May.

Shortly after the NLRB reported that notices had been received by the union and the company on Wednesday, ExxonMobil released a notice for employees about the certification.
