LINCOLN A state labor commission placed a partial hold Friday on Gov. Jim Pillen's order requiring state employees to return to working in their offices starting on Tuesday.
The Commission of Industrial Relations paused the governor's directive while the commission hears and decides a legal challenge filed by the Nebraska Association of Public Employees, the largest state employee union. The delay applies to many but not all state workers.
The union's petition, filed Dec. 13, had asked that the state be ordered to negotiate over Pillens Nov. 13 executive order, which would require state employees to work in their offices from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some exceptions.
The union also asked for a temporary order delaying the changes, which the three-member commission granted, at least for the more than 8,000 state employees covered by the NAPE contract.
