I have a dear friend who spray painted them gold and covered them with glitter to create a magical wishbone.

Off topic, but how does your etsy shop do? We're thinking of opening one, but it seems as though it's just a mishmash and how does one find something and then sell? I haven't really studied it, so thanks for your input.

2. My shop does OK. I don't rely on it for a living.

It keeps me in Hulu and Netflix, and reimburses me for my materials.

The best sellers are the things that are unique to my shop - and the teflon thread that I sell in 10 yard increments (it's $100 for a thousand yard spool, and many people want to try it out before they splurge, or need it for a small project. It's resistant to salt, so it's excellent to use for necklaces and bracelets, and won't deteriorate next to the skin.)

I wouldn't recommend carrying items that people can make with supplies from a craft store.


Were you planning on carrying handmade items or vintage?

3. Everything is original art

I would love to have these things leave the shelves and fill someone's home. I don't plan to make it my total annual income; but the real question is whether or not it's worth the efforts. Sounds like you're saying you make $100-200 a month? Do you put much effort into it? An hour or two a day or week?

4. Some months are better than others

I generally set aside a weekend and work furiously on a project, and some months, I'm too busy to create anything.

There's also trial and error, especially with the chrysalis earrings. Those took months, and failures.

You also want good photos of your work.

I make about $40- $60 a month, and some months twice that, others, nothing.

Is you work easily shipped? That's another issue. If the shipping is a substantial portion of the price of the piece, that could slow sales.

In any case, it costs very little to set up a store - .20 per listing.

Have you tried selling on Craigslist as well?
