Teacher crisis is worse than we thought. And it's driven by low wages (DUH!)

America’s teachers are paid poorly compared to other college graduates, a new study details — and that’s driving a “large and growing” teacher shortage that’s approaching a tipping point.

As a wave of disenchanted teachers take to the streets in protest around the country, a new report by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) highlights a dearth of qualified educators in schools.

and am considering teaching instead of sticking with law...but only because I will get about 70K in annual retirement so a 40-50K a year teaching job is mighty fine for me. We should pay teachers much more to attract the best and to fund such an important job.

Last to get money when it is available - and first to get cut when money is tight.

I had this on the door of my school during "W's" reign:

"After we rebuild Iraq can we please rebuild America's schools?"
