There is a certain level of irony that enthusiam for batteries and electric cars...

...which did nothing to stop extreme global heating, and only made things get worse faster, also led to the installation of a racist apartheid bred thug, holder of African cobalt slaves, our new King, King Musk.

This misplaced enthusiasm brought down the United States.

King Leopold must be smiling in his grave.

I hate to embrace Shadenfreude, but I never want to hear another fucking word about the wonders of Powerwalls.

I would venture to guess that a high number of Tesla owners did NOT vote for trump. I know for certain that in our local circle the 22 other owners including myself did not and would never. I bought my Tesla in late 2019 and highly object to your broad brush disparate opinion. trump won because 68,000,000 voters didn’t show up.

King Musk was very popular here at DU years ago, as were, and still are, the general cause of electric cars, but in defense of DU, understanding of the 2nd law of thermodynamics is not a requirement to engage in political thought.

It's too bad that understanding the laws of thermodynamics is not more generally embraced, however. Ignorance of them is the root cause of the collapse of the planetary atmosphere, King Musk merely a symptom.

Think. Again.

Outlook for Emissions Reductions

" Road transport electrification at the global scale is expected to unlock substantial emission reductions in the coming decades. While it will be important to keep in check any additional emissions coming from electricity generation for EVs, these emissions will be more than outweighed by the emissions reductions resulting from a switch to electric. In the STEPS, the emissions avoided by using EVs rather than ICE equivalents (alongside continued improvements to ICE fuel economy) reach over 2 Gt of CO2 equivalent (CO2-eq) in 2035. Additional emissions from electricity generation for EVs are far smaller, at over 380 Mt CO2-eq, meaning there is a net saving of 1.8 Gt CO2-eq in 2035 in the STEPS. Sustained decarbonisation of power generation helps deliver even more emission reductions in the APS, in which net emissions avoided by switching to electric reach around 2 Gt CO2-eq in 2035. "
