(60,983 posts)Pay electric company for anything over that.
Should cut our bill by more than 50%

(4,896 posts)and between tax credits etc. from state and feds, and electric bills cut by about a third, and the sale of SRECS, we reached payback a few months ago. We have an array of 14 panels, installed at a cost of $40,000. We paid out of pocket about $25,000.

(1,038 posts)How many kilowatts is your system? We installed a 9 kw system in 2014 36 panels at 250 watts apiece on my shop roof, it feeds our house too. Added another 1kw ground mount system and have another 3kw of panels I picked up on sale from solar boulevard I still have to install. We are close to 80 percent in energy generation. With the additional 3k should hit 100.

(4,896 posts)We are only 6.75 kW. Well done, especially picking up panels on sale andn installing them yourself.

(658 posts)Paid somewhere around 38k for the system, including a 10kW battery. We use slightly more than we generate annually, but not by much. I don't think in terms of ROI. If I reduce the cost by the amount we paid for the battery, we'd be at around 28k. We did get the federal tax deduction when we purchased the system. I can't remember what that was.
I'd do it again and would advise anyone who asks to go for it.
