Colorado Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, a supporter of Floridas Dont Say Gay law, has now proposed that queer and trans people should remain closeted until reaching a designated level of "maturity."
We require people to be 21 to purchase alcohol beverages, and 21 to purchase tobacco products, the Colorado congresswoman wrote in a tweet posted on April 1. Why is it so unreasonable to require people to reach a certain level of maturity before making life-altering decisions about their sexuality and identity?
This is just the latest in what has become a pattern of anti-LGBTQ+ comments made by Boebert. In February, she was outspoken in her opposition to the Equality Act because it would extend civil rights protections to LGBTQ+ individuals.
We all know that thats just the Democrats using a play on words.
Theres nothing about equality in that act. If anything, its supremacy of gays and lesbians and transvestites, Boebert said in an interview on Real Americas Voice.
One of the Democrats looking to face Boebert in November's election is a gay man who went viral with his campaign video calling out Boebert's extreme views. Alex Walker's video shows fecal matter falling from the skies and ends with him declaring, Colorado needs a bull, not a bullshitter.

(2,809 posts)The only choice I made in my early teens was to be honest with myself and others. A life risking choice a half century ago where I was: a tiny "Don't Say Gay" community.
Driven nearly to suicide prior to finding out I wasn't the only person in the whole world like this...
Hoping all this anti-LGBTQ bullshit backfires magnanimity.

Meanwhile, Boebert chose to be this stupid - by not reading in school, by snorting OxyClean, by watching Fox News nonstop, by donating her brain to science before she died... Whatever the hell she did, she made this choice. She chose to be this fucking stupid. And we all get to live with the consequences.

really shows.
On the other hand, there are many, many LGBT people with successful and fulfilling careers. There are even LGBT Nobelists - Jane Addams won the Peace Prize, and there are five Literature laureates. Being LGBT is totally compatible with having a normal and fulfilling life in ways being a single mother will never be.
