My son who is on disability has a chance to get a job working with a friend. He was told by someone that after 8 hours

of work, the government will take 1/2 of everything he makes for the rest of the month. He just wants to know if that is how it works. If anyone knows, I would really appreciate an answer.

At some point, I think Trump will go after disability. They will reassess millions based on ability to work, and working Doodley Nov 10 #2
Yes, we discussed this but he is willing to chance it and quit if he can't handle it. I'm not at all sure he can. ratchiweenie Nov 10 #9

google says he can earn around $1600 a month before it effects his benefits. You might want to check the Social Security website and see what it says.

part-time will be a consideration of ability to work. BTW, my wife is on disability.

They will be looking for any reason to throw people off disability.

A friend got a big check from Social Security to correct an error in earlier SSDI payments.

This put him over the income limit for Medicaid and he had no medical insurance until he spent all the re-payment.

And then he had to wait months for the processing.

The system has always screwed the little people. You have to do what you have to do to survive.

After $85, they will reduce the benefit . They will withold 1/2 of each dollar made. You are still money ahead if you work. Look up ssa fact sheet for ssdi income thresholds. SSA Fact Sheet.

I spent decades helping people with disabilities find and keep jobs. Look at the Social Security Red Book. It's online. Once your son reaches what they call 'Substantial Gainful Activity', your son's disability check will decrease by one dollar for every two dollars he earns above SGA. He would have to earn around $4800 per month to lose all of his disability payment. There are also ways to have some of his salary exempted from the equation by spending money on things he probably already does to remain employed. The Red Book will tell you about all of that. Good luck.
