Alaska Politician Suggests this it is Time to Stop Educating Handicapped Children

Mark Ewing, a former city councilman from Wasilla, Alaska, and candidate for the state House recently squared off in a debate with his opponent. In that debate, Ewing made several surprising comments, including “I love coal. I love the smell of burning coal in the morning.”

Of course, coal is one of the most polluting sources of energy around. A single power plant dumps tons of harmful pollutants into the air, inflicting damage on people and nature. Enjoying the smell of burning coal is as wise as inhaling tobacco fumes and bragging about how great it is for one’s health.

Perhaps all that inhaling helps explain Ewing’s next comment. These words cannot go down well with Wasilla’s more famous resident Sarah Palin whose youngest child is handicapped.

1. Even if all you care about it cost efficiency his idea is still wrong

Then you have a big glut of people with disabilities growing up uneducated and unskilled, who will then be more dependent than ever on governement social programs their whole lives, at an even greater long term cost to the taxpayer.

No Child Left Behind should be repealed, but for other reasons.

2. I assume that his plan, after killing education for people with disabiities,

would be to kill social programs for them, with the ultimate goal of killing them themselves.

Much cheaper that way.

We could then extend the same logic to groups such as disabled veterans, who cost far too much and are a drag on society long after their practical usefulness to the Empire is gone.

Federal law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), requires that education be made available to all children, regardless of disability.

I got to be honest with you, I am not in favor of the No Child Left Behind Act. We are spending millions and millions of dollars educating children that have a hard time making their wheelchair move and, I’m sorry, but you’ve got to say, ‘no’ somewhere.

It's not NCLB that gives disabled children the right to an education. It's the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). It's been around since the '70s.

7. The Republican mantra is keep the masses in the dark (fox) and voting blindly.

First take away the children's education then health care, if he or she had any. A wheelchair is cheap compared to monthly medications needed by individuals in order to stay functioning or alive. To all elected officials, remember that you work for your constituents not k-street.
