Related: About this forumMajor cause of inflammatory bowel disease found
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1wwdd6v2wjoA major cause of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been discovered by UK scientists.
They found a weak spot in our DNA that is present in 95% of people with the disease.
It makes it much easier for some immune cells to go haywire and drive excessive inflammation in the bowels.
The team have found drugs that already exist seem to reverse the disease in laboratory experiments and are now aiming for human trials.

I have Crohn's disease and have had it most of my life. I nearly lost my life when I was in my teens and it has had a major impact on my life and how I live. The thing that hurts the most is that 2 of my children also have it. I would love a better treatment or a cure.

My daughter has crohns too. She was diagnosed at 9yrs and has been on biologics ever since. I was excited to see new movement in this field. Hopefully relief is in sight. 🤞
