What if Health Insurance investors and management got the same rate of rejection they give?
This is more of a thought experiment since it is more like a Science Fiction short than a practical solution.
But with that said, after a patient and a doctor determine they want to pursue treatment, Insurance companies then decide if the treatment is allowed. Small parts can be denied and that can add up to large expenses. Yes, they have all the lawyers, but it seems like a really good class action could be made against these companies, since they practice medicine remotely and without medical training or examination, but only cancel medical practice and never suggest improvements.
So my fantasy idea is that the insurers face the same odds as the insured. I wonder how a health insurance CEO would react if he knew that someone was going to make a random determination that might result in their not getting care. If the odds were the same as their companies rejection rate, maybe they might reconsider a few decisions. If their cost of treatment was set to match the relative cost for their victims, they might make things a bit better.
