(15,066 posts)1. Rereading Hillerman's books now. Wasn't there a previous TV series of some of his books?

(1,654 posts)8. They were on PBS.
I think they are available on DVD and Amazon so they might be able to be streamed also. Haven't checked. There are 2 or 3 of them.

(699 posts)2. This is good news
First because Tony Hillerman novels are pretty good, and second, filming in the native lands might bring more tourist dollars and filming permit fees into the area.

(12,921 posts)6. Yes. NM Film Office says the production is providing local jobs.
Press release here: https://nmfilm.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/NMFO_PressRelease_DarkWinds.pdf
The production will employ approximately 200 New Mexico crew members and over 275 New Mexico background and extras.
We are ecstatic that AMC is being so intentional about telling this story in an authentic way by creative talent whose work speaks for itself, with a Native American director from New Mexico, as well as Native American writers, actors, and locations. Dark Winds is a series that must be made in New Mexico and we welcome the production and AMC to our state with open arms, Amber Dodson, Director, New Mexico Film Office, said.

Shooting will take place at "various locations around Santa Fe, Española, Pueblo of Cochiti, Pueblo of Tesuque, and the Navajo Nation." I'm especially glad to hear about shooting taking place within native communities.
