Adolescence on Netflix

This is a British tv series with 4 episodes. I binge watched it last night. The basic story is about a 13 year old boy who is accused of murdering a female classmate. Mostly its an exploration of adolescence, of parenting, and of cyberbullying.

Its an extremely powerful and realistic drama. The accent makes their speech very difficult to understand- I wish I had watched it with captions.

Highly recommended.

And the first episode was sooooo slow I had to watch it on 1.5 speed to get through it. Started E2 and that was a little faster paced. Not sure I'f I'm up for watching the rest.

…especially the actors playing the boy and the father.

Peer pressure has always been a big factor in adolescence but social media has taken it to a whole new level.

When I watch a crime/mystery type show I expect there to be a surprise of some sort. That totally wasn't the case here. A young kid is accused of murdering a classmate. You hope evidence will turn up that will incriminate someone else. Didn't happen. He did it plain and simple. Ultimately, I found it to be a waste of time. I know, it was supposed to be about bullying, but I thought it would be more satisfying. It was just depressing.

felt like a gimmick at times, but I have to say that it must have taken a considerable amount of time in rehearsals to get the coordination of camera and actors in perfect sync. The first 2 episodes were very strong, the third kind of meandered and the drama picks up in the fourth, especially in the last 20 minutes. Those last 20 minutes were heartbreaking. The acting was excellent throughout.

Stephen Graham and others picked him from 500 auditions and they sure picked the right person.

I haven't seen Stephen Graham before, but I will certainly look for his films in the future. He is amazing. And the last 20 minutes were amazing.

Its a good look at what families go through when a child does something like this. So much pain.

I think the entire 2nd episode was shot in one take. It's pretty amazing film making. I think of all the rehearsal time they put in to finally shoot a 50 minutes scene in multiple locations around a school in ONE take.
